Earlier Report Observations

The orange market in Malaysia, measured in physical volume, expanded from 101.0 thousand tons in 2018 to a peak of 122.5 thousand tons in 2022, before contracting to 101.5 thousand tons in 2023. This growth phase was supported by robust import volumes, which rose from 93.7 thousand tons to 115.4 thousand tons over the same period, ensuring supply met rising demand.

Market growth in 2022 was driven by the launch of a new orange-flavored energy drink specifically for the Malaysian market, creating fresh demand for orange-based inputs. Concurrently, stronger domestic private consumption, fueled by an improved labor market and sustained business confidence, boosted overall demand for orange products, including juice.

While domestic production remained modest, imports consistently accounted for the bulk of market supply. Following the 2022 peak, import volumes remained above 100 thousand tons through 2025, indicating sustained underlying demand for oranges in the country.
