Between 2018 and 2020, the Finnish NPK fertilizers market volume increased from 1 441 thousand tonnes to 1 521 thousand tonnes. This growth was supported by the expansion of product assortments, including the shift to prilled NPK fertilizers with ammonium nitrate by Cemagro, which replaced traditional blends. The adoption of EU-compliant labeling practices in 2019 standardized the presentation of nutrient content across the market. In 2020, the launch of fast-acting hybrid fertilizers, combining NPK with ammonium nitrate or calcium ammonium nitrate, created a new segment and stimulated further demand.

The market expanded sharply to 2 201 thousand tonnes in 2021 and peaked at 3 072 thousand tonnes in 2022. This surge was primarily driven by the arrival of new high-nitrogen and sulfur-containing NPKS fertilizers in 2021, which were tailored for spring cereal application and broadened product use. After the peak, market volume corrected to 2 054 thousand tonnes in 2023 and further to 1 340 thousand tonnes in 2024, returning to levels similar to the start of the period.

After two years of decline, Finland's NPK fertilizer production volume increased in 2020. The country produced 1 409 thousand tons that year, marking a modest 9.3% year-over-year growth. However, between 2017 and 2020, overall production decreased by 22.1%, equivalent to an 8.0% annual decline. The lowest volume was recorded in 2019 at 1 290 thousand tons, while the largest annual decrease occurred in 2018 at 26.0%.

Over the 2017-2020 period, import value grew by 47.1%, with an annualized growth rate of 13.7%. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 34 034 thousand US dollars. The largest annual decline occurred in 2019 at 27.0%, while the most significant increase took place in 2018 at 64.6%.
