The market for not retail-packaged synthetic filament yarn in Hungary expanded from 14 225 t in 2018 to 15 122 t in 2019, driven by the launch of new production lines by Friend Plastic KFt. and the establishment of a Miskolc-based plant manufacturing 3D printer filaments with domestic technology. The introduction of carbon fiber-reinforced filaments further diversified product offerings. However, market volume fell by 29.4% to 10 674 t in 2020.

A recovery in 2021 pushed market volume up 26.1% to 13 462 t, supported by innovations such as automated filament production from PET bottles and the adoption of ISO quality and environmental management certifications by manufacturers. Growth continued in 2022, reaching 14 515 t, aided by the entry of a new Hungarian supplier of international-grade 3D printing materials and the expansion of product ranges to include TPU, PVA, and recycled filaments. The market then contracted by 14.8% to 12 374 t in 2023.

Throughout 2018–2021, the three largest markets for exports in kind were Poland, France, and Italy, which together accounted for 78.6% of total flows.
