From 2018 to 2023, Turkish production of non-wood fibre pulp remained steady at 53 000 tonnes annually. The total market volume, however, showed considerable fluctuation, primarily influenced by varying import levels which moved between 17 535 and 40 436 tonnes over the period.

The market peaked at 93 319 tonnes in 2019, then contracted to 84 027 tonnes in 2020 before recovering to 91 513 tonnes the following year. A two-year downturn followed, with the market volume falling to 82 823 tonnes in 2022 and then sharply to 70 070 tonnes in 2023, a decline driven overwhelmingly by a drop in imports to 17 535 tonnes that year.

Exports from Turkey grew modestly from 125 tonnes in 2018 to 465 tonnes in 2023, but their scale was too small to significantly alter the overall market dynamics, which were dominated by production stability and import volatility.

In 2020, Turkey produced 53 000 tonnes of non-wood fibre pulp, showing little change compared to 2019. The largest decline occurred in 2018, at 0.0%, while the largest increase was also recorded in 2018, at 0.0%.

The market showed an unstable trend throughout the period. Exports reached their minimum in 2017 and peaked in 2020, with a 2.9-fold difference between these years. In 2020, Turkey's non-wood fibre pulp exports amounted to 209 tonnes, representing a sharp year-on-year increase of 77.7%. The largest decline was recorded in 2019, at 6.0%.

Data from 2017 to 2020 indicate that Turkey's non-wood fibre pulp exports in kind were not concentrated on a few key destinations. Georgia accounted for 23.8% of exports, Iraq for 11.9%, and China for 9.2%, with these three countries together making up only 45.0% of total flows.

The market exhibited an unstable trend throughout the timeframe. Exports varied by 3.9 times, from a low in 2017 to a high in 2020. In 2020, Turkey exported non-wood fibre pulp worth 317 thousand US dollars, marking a steep increase of 193.3% compared to the previous year. The largest decline was recorded in 2019, at 3.0%.

After a two-year increase, Turkey's imports of non-wood fibre pulp declined. In 2020, Turkey imported 40 436 tonnes, which is 22.8% lower than the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, imports grew by 28.5%, equating to an annualized rate of 8.7%. The maximum volume was recorded in 2019 at 40 436 tonnes, while the largest increase occurred in 2018, at 34.3%.

From 2017 to 2020, Norway was the principal source for Turkey's non-wood fibre pulp imports in kind, accounting for 49.5% of the total. Sweden followed with 11.8%, and Croatia with 11.4%. Together, these three countries made up 72.6% of total import flows.

After a two-year uptick, Turkey's cross-border shipments of non-wood fibre pulp declined. In 2020, imports totalled 15 298 thousand US dollars, marking a decrease of 25.5% versus the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, imports increased by 48.2%, with a compound annual growth rate of 14.0%. The maximum value was recorded in 2019 at 20 541 thousand US dollars, while the largest increase occurred in 2018, at 64.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, Norway accounted for 41.3% of Turkey's non-wood fibre pulp imports in value terms, Germany for 12.3%, and Sweden for 10.6%. Together, these three countries comprised 64.2% of total import flows.
