Earlier Report Observations

The market volume for non-vegetable waxes in Mexico grew slightly to 1 825 t in 2019 from 1 782 t in 2018, but then contracted sharply to 1 490 t in 2020. This significant decline was driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted global economic activity and impacted the wax industry.

Market volume recovered to 1 607 t in 2021, supported by a rebound in domestic production. However, it softened to 1 574 t in 2022 and further to 1 438 t in 2023. During this latter period, consumer preferences increasingly shifted toward natural and sustainably produced goods, which influenced demand for waxes like beeswax. Additionally, candelilla wax, a notable product in Mexico's wax sector, gained attention for its distinctive properties.
