Earlier Report Observations

The MENA market for non-rendered pig fat began the period with production of 1 087 t in 2018. This output was supported by a peak in the global pork fat market and the product's cost advantage over vegetable oils, as it is a readily available by-product of pork processing. These factors helped lift domestic production to 1 121 t the following year, with total market volume reaching 1 379 t in 2019.

From 2020 onward, the market entered a sustained contraction. Although production peaked at 1 223 t in 2020, total market volume fell to 1 317 t that year due to a sharp drop in imports. The decline continued through 2023, with market size shrinking to 964 t and production falling to 938 t.

Import levels were volatile throughout the period, falling to a low of 51 t in 2023 before recovering to 204 t in 2024. Exports remained negligible, with only a minor shipment of 25 t recorded in 2023.
