Following the 2020 peak, the domestic market volume contracted sharply, falling to 16 671 t by 2023. This decline coincided with Poland strengthening its position as a leading exporter within the EU, with export volumes reaching 33 121 t in 2024. The growth in external shipments likely reduced product availability for the local market.

Throughout the period, underlying consumer preferences steadily shifted towards organic and biodegradable non-ionic surfactants, sustaining demand in eco-conscious segments of personal care and cleaning, even as the overall market volume in tons declined.

Poland's exports of non-ionic surfactants declined for the second year in a row. In 2019, exports reached 25,724 tons, but by 2020, they had dropped to 23,563 tons, marking an 8.4% decrease from the previous year. The highest export volume was recorded in 2018 at 26,308 tons, which also saw the largest annual increase of 13.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, Poland's exports of non-ionic surfactants were spread across many countries. Germany accounted for 18.6% of the export volume, Turkey for 12.5%, and Italy for 8.8%. Together, these three countries made up just 39.8% of total exports, with the remaining 60.2% going to a wide range of other destinations.

Poland's non-ionic surfactants exports in value terms also fell for the second consecutive year. In 2019, exports were valued at 56.2 million US dollars, but in 2020, they decreased to 50.5 million US dollars, a significant drop of 10.1% year-on-year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports grew by 7.3%, averaging an annual increase of 2.4%. The peak value was in 2018 at 58.7 million US dollars, which also experienced the largest annual rise of 24.6%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Poland's non-ionic surfactants exports in value terms were widely distributed among partner countries. Germany held an 18.1% share, Turkey 11.4%, and Russia 11.1%. From 2017 to 2020, Germany was the leading supplier of non-ionic surfactants to Poland, accounting for 42.6% of import volume. Italy followed with 10.2%, and Belgium with 8.7%. Together, these three countries made up 61.5% of total imports in kind, highlighting their dominant role in Poland's supply chain.
