From 2022 to 2023, contraction in the global sawnwood market and falling worldwide demand led to a further decline in volume to 5 155 thousand m³. Producers responded by diversifying export markets to include Asian countries and increasing shipments of processed forest products, which helped stabilize the market.

Non-coniferous sawnwood production in South America has declined for the third consecutive year. In 2020, South America produced 6,415 K m³ of non-coniferous sawnwood, marking a 4.7% decrease compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 9.4%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of -3.2%.

Non-coniferous sawnwood exports from South America have increased for the third consecutive year. From 2017 to 2020, China, the United States, and the Netherlands played leading roles in the value of non-coniferous sawnwood exports from South America.
