From 2018 to 2023, the non-coniferous roundwood market in Venezuela showed consistent, albeit slow, growth. The market volume increased from 5 191 thous. m³ in 2018 to 5 258 thous. m³ in 2023, with only a minor contraction in 2022 when it dipped to 5 237 thous. m³. This overall expansion reflected a stable domestic supply chain, as imports remained negligible throughout the period.

A key development occurred in 2019 when Venezuela signed a bilateral agreement with Trinidad and Tobago to export roundwood, wood chips, and other forest materials. This state-led initiative included projections by the state-owned company Maderas del Orinoco to significantly increase sawnwood output, signaling an investment in production capacity that helped maintain domestic market volume even as exports began to rise from 2021 onward.

Following the 2022 dip, production rebounded in 2023, reaching 5 276 thous. m³ and pushing the market size to its peak for the period. The gradual growth trajectory was supported by the ongoing influence of export-oriented policies initiated earlier, which provided a framework for sustained production activity.

In 2020, the output was valued at 2 329 million US dollars, marking a 19.2% increase compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production decreased by 3.3%, which translates to an average annual decline of 1.1%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 1 953 million US dollars, while the largest decline occurred in 2018 with an 11.3% drop.
