Earlier Report Observations

The newsprint market in the MENA region contracted significantly between 2018 and 2023, with total market volume falling from 470.9 thousand tonnes to 270.4 thousand tonnes. This decline was driven entirely by a sharp reduction in imports, which more than halved over the period, while domestic production remained unchanged at 82.0 thousand tonnes annually.

A notable fluctuation occurred in 2020, when exports surged to 47.6 thousand tonnes, contributing to a temporary drop in market size to 240.8 thousand tonnes. Following this, imports continued to decrease, and the market volume stabilized around 270-280 thousand tonnes from 2021 to 2023.

By 2024, import volumes had fallen further to 178.9 thousand tonnes, suggesting a continued downward trend in overall supply, although full market size data for that year is not yet available.
