Earlier Report Observations
From 2018 to 2023, Brazil's production of natural latex in primary forms increased consistently from 199.7 thousand tons to 278.0 thousand tons. This growth was initially supported by policy incentives aimed at expanding productive capacity, including an expected 4% rise in cultivated areas reported in 2018. The total market volume, calculated as production plus imports, rose from 229.4 thousand tons to 300.9 thousand tons over the same period.
A key driver emerged in 2022 with growing domestic demand for medical products like gloves and condoms, which bolstered consumption. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 caused temporary disruptions in tire factories but left the medical glove segment resilient. In 2023, a sharp 118% increase in natural rubber prices incentivized labor return and further boosted production volumes.
New regulations introduced in 2024 under Law 14.785/2023 established traceability certification for latex production and labeling, affecting compliance costs. Concurrently, a strong Brazilian real reduced import costs for inputs. By 2025, Paraná had become the nation's leading latex producer, while tax legislation changes in Goiás and the launch of new value-added products, such as infant teethers, signaled industry diversification.
