Molasses production in MERCOSUR has increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, production reached 17 657 K t, marking a significant 36.6% rise compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 6.8%, with an average annual growth rate of 2.2%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 12 730 K t, which also saw the largest decline of 23.0%.

After two years of decline, MERCOSUR's molasses exports rebounded. In 2020, export volume reached 8 731 t, reflecting a sharp increase of 51.4% compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports decreased by 9%, with an annualized decline of 3.1%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2019 at 5 767 t, which saw the largest decline of 30.4%.
