Molasses production in Côte d'Ivoire remained steady at 65 000 t in 2018 and 2019, supported by SUCAF-CI's major investment plan launched in 2018 to expand sugarcane acreage and increase daily milling capacity, laying the groundwork for future growth. Output then jumped to 81 516 t in 2020 as these expanded sugar production facilities came fully online, increasing the yield of this sugar by-product.

Production reached a plateau of 85 909 t from 2021 through 2023. During this period, government measures to cap sugar prices and combat speculation, followed by the suspension of sugar exports in September 2023 to ensure domestic supply, helped maintain stable operations at sugar mills, ensuring consistent molasses output.

A significant development for the molasses market occurred in 2024 with SUCAF-CI's launch of a $30 million USD modern distillery project to process molasses into industrial alcohol, highlighting its growing value. The government's five-year ban on sugar imports, maintained to protect the local industry, further supports the underlying sugar production base from which molasses is derived.
