Between 2018 and 2020, millet production in Côte d'Ivoire rose from 63 847 t to 69 465 t, supported by government policies that rehabilitated rural infrastructure to improve market access for farmers and strengthened the agricultural value chain. Initiatives to boost investment in local food production and enhance food security resilience further contributed to this growth.

Production dipped to 67 441 t in 2021 before recovering to 70 124 t in 2022 as new quality and traceability standards for agricultural products were introduced, facilitating access to international markets. Increased subsidies and rural development programs during this period provided direct support to growers, helping to expand output.

Output fell to 62 092 t in 2023, a year which saw the launch of the €10 million SAFAF program to reinforce the food value chain with European funding and the repair of rural roads to improve agricultural distribution. By 2024, import volumes had decreased to 699 t, while regional trade agreements like the African Continental Free Trade Area began shaping market dynamics, and consumer preferences continued shifting toward local and organic produce.
