In 2021, production fell to 254.6 thousand tonnes and market volume declined to 581.5 thousand tonnes. The following year, Indian export restrictions on broken rice from September 2022 and supply chain disruptions from the war in Ukraine reduced import availability, contributing to a slight market contraction to 578.4 thousand tonnes despite an increase in domestic output to 274.3 thousand tonnes.

By 2023, the market rebounded to 634.8 thousand tonnes as global rice prices dropped after India eased its trade restrictions, allowing imports to recover to 372.6 thousand tonnes while production continued to grow, reaching 291.2 thousand tonnes. Imports then rose further to 389.4 thousand tonnes in 2024 and 411.4 thousand tonnes in 2025, indicating sustained demand.
