From late 2022, the Austrian metal industry entered a recession, with every second company expecting negative results. Industry reports from 2023 and 2024 noted that while return on equity had moderated from its 2021 peak, it remained above pre-pandemic levels, and investment appetite stayed strong. The sustained higher market value throughout the period reflects the cumulative impact of cost inflation and higher input prices across the metal goods supply chain.
