Earlier Report Observations

The market volume of linseed in Asia declined from 1 617 thsd. t in 2018 to 1 423 thsd. t in 2021. This contraction was influenced by a lack of significant government support for cultivation in India, which limited production growth, while the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global supply chains and trade. Growing consumer interest in functional linseed oil products provided some support to demand during this period.

Market volume recovered to 1 517 thsd. t in 2022 and expanded further to 1 715 thsd. t in 2023. This rebound was driven by sustained global demand for linseed oil and seeds, which boosted imports in 2022. In 2023, rising consumption in China and across Asia led to increased linseed imports, while stricter supply chain transparency and certification requirements emerged as key market-shaping factors.
