Earlier Report Observations

The Polish market for limestone flux, limestone and calcareous stone saw significant volume fluctuations between 2018 and 2024. The market structure has long been defined by two dominant lime producers, ZPW Trzuskawica and Lhoist, which supply burnt lime essential for cement manufacturing and various industrial applications. Following a modest volume increase in 2019, the market contracted sharply in 2020.

Market volume recovered strongly in 2021 and peaked in 2022 at over 16 million tonnes. This growth coincided with key industry developments where major producers, notably Lhoist, expanded production of specialized lime fillers for the construction sector. These fillers improve the properties of cement and precast concrete. At the same time, hydrated lime gained importance due to its recognized biocidal, antifungal, and self-healing crack capabilities, which broadened its applications in building materials and stimulated new demand.

After the 2022 peak, physical market volume declined in 2023 and 2024. In contrast, the market value in US dollars rose steadily each year from 2018 to 2024, indicating a trend of higher prices or a shift toward more valuable lime-based products throughout the period.
