The market for fresh or chilled leguminous vegetables in Finland showed significant volatility between 2018 and 2023. Volume peaked at 8 936 tonnes in 2019, a 29% increase from the 6 918 tonnes recorded in 2018, before declining over the next two years to a low of 6 502 tonnes in 2021. A strong recovery followed in 2022, with the market expanding by 28% to 8 318 tonnes, and it stabilized with a slight rise to 8 477 tonnes in 2023.

Domestic production mirrored this pattern, reaching 8 920 tonnes in 2019, falling to 6 080 tonnes in 2021, and recovering to 7 870 tonnes by 2023. Imports remained a secondary supply source throughout the period, with annual volumes varying.

In 2024, updated national nutrition guidelines formally established leguminous vegetables as a separate food group and recommended a daily intake of 50–100 grams for adults. Concurrently, a major player, Apetit Oyj, launched its Palko+ product blends, which combine legumes with vegetables to facilitate easier consumption.

Finland's production of leguminous vegetables reached 7,480 tonnes in 2020, representing a significant year-over-year decline of 16.1%. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production increased by 4.1%, which translates to an annualized growth rate of 1.4%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 6,380 tonnes, while the peak occurred in 2019 with 8,920 tonnes. The largest annual increase was observed in 2019, when production surged by 39.8%.

After two consecutive years of decline, Finland's exports of leguminous vegetables rebounded in 2020. Shipments abroad totaled 1.3 tonnes, marking a sharp increase of 41.9% compared to 2019. However, over the broader period from 2017 to 2020, exports decreased by 59.5%, equivalent to an annualized decline of 26.0%. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 0.9 tonnes, which also saw the largest annual decline of 67.8%.

From 2017 to 2020, Estonia was the nearly exclusive buyer of leguminous vegetables from Finland, accounting for 92.2% of total exports in volume terms.
