The market for lard and poultry fats in Kazakhstan grew from 2 999 t in 2018 to a peak of 3 202 t in 2020. This expansion was primarily driven by state subsidies for pedigree livestock farming, which supported increased poultry meat production and consequently raised the output of associated fats.

After 2020, the market volume contracted sharply, falling to 2 132 t by 2023. This downturn coincided with reported insufficient domestic poultry production, leading to greater reliance on meat imports and reduced fat output. Simultaneously, inflationary pressures and rising production costs further strained the sector, contributing to the decline.
