The Hungarian industrial robots market opened the period at USD 74.7 million in 2018, supported by rising demand from the automotive sector and the expansion of e-commerce and automation. Market volume then dipped to USD 72.3 million in 2019 and fell more sharply to USD 63.0 million in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic dampened European industrial activity.

After reaching a low of USD 53.2 million in 2022, the market rebounded vigorously to USD 68.2 million in 2023. This recovery was fueled by a higher robot density in Hungarian manufacturing, reaching 115 robots per 10,000 workers, and the rapid expansion of collaborative robots (cobots) that integrate AI and machine vision. Growth continued into 2024, with the market reaching USD 76.9 million, as companies prioritized robotics to enhance productivity and energy efficiency despite broader economic headwinds in Europe.

Production industrial robots in Hungary

In 2019, Hungary's industrial robots production reached its peak value of 53,585 thousand US dollars. However, in 2020, output declined to 50,085 thousand US dollars, marking a 6.5% decrease from the previous year. Over the period from 2018 to 2020, production fell by 4%, which translates to an annualized decline of 1.4%. The most significant increase occurred in 2019, with a growth rate of 2.7%.

Hungary's industrial robots production volume has declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 825 units, representing a dramatic year-on-year contraction of 84.1%. From 2018 to 2020, production decreased by 87.9%, with a compound annual growth rate of -50.5%.

Industrial robots shipments from Hungary to abroad have increased for the third consecutive year. In 2021, Hungary exported 799 units, showing an uptick of 11.9% from the previous year. Between 2018 and 2021, exports grew by 19.6%, equating to an annualized rate of 6.2%.

After a two-year drop, industrial robots volumes imported by Hungary increased in 2021. The country imported a total of 1,488 units, which is 35.3% greater compared to the previous year. The minimum value was recorded in 2020 at 1,100 units, with the largest decline of 20.2% also occurring in that year.
