Earlier Report Observations

The in-shell almond market in Southern Asia experienced a multi-year contraction from 271 thousand tons in 2018 to 183 thousand tons in 2022. This decline was primarily triggered by increased U.S. import tariffs in 2019, which raised almond prices by an estimated 17-20% and introduced supply uncertainty from California, the region's dominant source.

Market volume rebounded sharply to 221 thousand tons in 2023, a 21% year-on-year increase. This recovery was fueled by robust demand in India, the world's largest almond importer, where American almonds hold over 80% market share due to sustained marketing efforts. Government initiatives promoting food processing and value-added products, highlighted by events like World Food India, further stimulated the market.
