This expansion coincided with the introduction of more efficient permanent magnet motors by companies like Baker Hughes, alongside rising investments in electric mobility and renewable energy projects, which supported demand for advanced magnetic components.

Market volume then entered a downward phase, declining to 1 726 t in 2020 and falling sharply to 1 311 t in 2021.

From 2022 onward, industry developments continued to shape the magnetic components sector. The Fraunhofer Institute unveiled 3D-printed neodymium magnets with improved performance, while EU initiatives promoted local rare earth production to secure supply chains. At the same time, high raw material price volatility and inflationary pressures posed challenges for manufacturers.

Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 7%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 2.3%. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 46 896 thousand US dollars. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 4.7%, while the most significant increase was in 2018, at 10.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, overall production increased by 12.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.1%. The peak volume was in 2019 at 1 760 tonnes, and the largest increase was in 2018, at 9.8%.

In 2020, exports amounted to 57.4 tonnes, marking a slight decline of 3.0% compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports rose by 10%, with a compound annual growth rate of 3.2%. The highest volume was recorded in 2019 at 59.2 tonnes, and the largest increase occurred in 2019, at 11.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, the country distribution of exports in volume terms was quite scattered. The United States accounted for 14.1% of exports, Nigeria for 8.4%, and France for 6.5%, together making up just 29.0% of total flows. No single partner emerged as clearly dominant during this period.

In 2020, exports totaled 6 474 thousand US dollars, reflecting a moderate advance of 7.4% compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports grew by 24.2%, with a compound annual growth rate of 7.5%.
