The Slovenian market for household and sanitary paper in wide rolls or large sheets contracted significantly between 2018 and 2023, with total volume dropping from 68 178 tons to 48 476 tons. This decline of nearly 30% was primarily driven by a substantial increase in exports, which grew from 3 895 tons to over 20 000 tons annually after 2020, reducing domestic availability.

Domestic production also showed volatility, falling from 63 000 tons in 2018 to 51 000 tons in 2020 before recovering to 61 091 tons by 2023. Simultaneously, imports gradually decreased, further contributing to the smaller market size. The combined effect of these trade and production shifts led to a consistently smaller volume of product supplied to the local market over the period.

By 2023, the market volume appeared to stabilize just above 48 000 tons, as exports remained at historically high levels and production recovered from its earlier lows.

The lowest export volume was in 2018 at 3 895 t, which saw the largest decline of 24.6%. In contrast, 2019 experienced the largest increase of 24.3%.

From 2017 to 2020, Croatia, Hungary, and Bosnia and Herzegovina were the primary markets for Slovenia's exports of household and sanitary paper in wide rolls or large sheets. Croatia accounted for 32.6% of exports in kind, Hungary for 23.3%, and Bosnia and Herzegovina for 12.2%. Together, these three countries represented 68.1% of total export flows.
