From 2018 to 2020, Guyana's honey market volume grew from 101 tonnes to 114 tonnes, supported by a revival of local beekeeping with new producers entering the sector and the Macouria honey's gold medal recognition in 2017 boosting product quality perception. Although the varroa parasite posed challenges to production growth in 2020, training initiatives by associations like Apiguy began strengthening beekeeping practices.

The market continued to expand, reaching 117 tonnes in 2021, driven by sustained promotion of organic and multifloral honeys and local events such as the Bee and Honey Day organized by the Regional Natural Park and Apiguy. In 2022, despite a slight dip to 116 tonnes, the sector received further quality endorsement with another gold medal for Macouria honey, while regional financial support and product diversification helped maintain industry momentum amid price pressures from an increase in amateur beekeepers.

In 2023, the honey market volume fell sharply to 92 tonnes, marking a significant contraction after years of growth.

Guyana's honey imports have risen for the second consecutive year. In 2021, the country imported 31 763 kg of honey, a robust increase of 18.0% from the previous year. Over the 2018-2021 period, imports grew by 14.3%, with an average annual growth rate of 4.5%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2019 at 16 626 kg, when imports fell by 40.2%. The largest increase occurred in 2020, with a jump of 61.9%.
