Between 2018 and 2020, the Czech honey market volume declined from 10 508 t to 7 601 t. Regulatory changes, such as the 2018 decree on extraction solvents in food production and the 2019 update of the EU invasive alien species list, introduced new requirements for honey production and beekeeping practices.

The market rebounded strongly in 2021, reaching 10 933 t, and continued growing to 12 615 t in 2022. This expansion was driven by rising consumer preference for natural and organic products, including honey, alongside the preparation of new EU organic farming legislation and the Czech Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy 2023-2027.

In 2023, market volume fell to 9 535 t. During this period, authorities were drafting new methodological guidelines for organic farming, which will shape future production rules for natural honey.

Honey production in Czechia has been declining for three consecutive years. In 2020, the country produced 4 997 tonnes of honey, which represents a 39.5% decrease compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 46.6%, with an average annual decline of 18.9%.

Following two years of growth, honey production in Czechia experienced a decline. In 2020, the output was valued at 26 426 thousand US dollars, down by 31.2% from the prior year. Between 2017 and 2020, production decreased by 25.9%, with an average annual decline of 9.5%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 38 402 thousand US dollars, while the largest increase occurred in 2018 at 4.1%.

After two years of decline, honey exports from Czechia increased. In 2020, exports reached 1 197 tonnes, marking a 12.7% rise compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports decreased by 31.1%, with an average annual decline of 11.7%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2019 at 1 062 tonnes, and the largest decline occurred in 2018 at 26.1%.

From 2017 to 2020, the main markets for Czech honey exports in volume terms were Slovakia, accounting for 44.0% of exports, Germany with 25.8%, and France with 18.9%. Together, these three countries represented 88.7% of total export flows.

Following two years of decline, honey exports from Czechia increased in value terms. In 2020, export volume totalled 6 332 thousand US dollars, showing a 28.2% year-on-year rise. Between 2017 and 2020, exports decreased by 4.2%, equating to an average annual decline of 1.4%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 4 940 thousand US dollars, and the largest decline occurred in 2018 at 19.8%.

From 2017 to 2020, the principal destinations for Czech honey exports in value terms were Slovakia, representing 37.7% of exports, Germany with 37.0%, and France with 12.3%. Collectively, these three markets accounted for 87.0% of total export flows.

Honey imports into Czechia increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country imported approximately 3 801 tonnes of honey, up by 20.8% compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, imports grew by 17.5%, with an average annual increase of 5.5%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2018 at 2 801 tonnes, and the largest decline occurred in the same year at 13.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, the main sources of honey imports into Czechia in volume terms were Ukraine, accounting for 29.6% of imports, Slovakia with 14.1%, and Moldova with 11.1%. Together, these three countries formed 54.8% of total import flows.

Honey imports into Czechia increased in value for the second consecutive year. In 2020, imports were recorded at 12 173 thousand US dollars, up by 20.5% relative to the prior year. Between 2017 and 2020, imports grew by 30.1%, equating to an average annual increase of 9.2%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 8 314 thousand US dollars, with the largest decline in that year at 11.1%, while the largest increase occurred in 2019 at 21.5%.
