Earlier Report Observations
The Asian natural honey market by volume grew from 746.7 thousand tonnes in 2018 to 792.1 thousand tonnes in 2020. This expansion was initially supported by stable production in China, the world's largest apiculture country. The increase accelerated in 2020, driven by India's launch of the 'Sweet Revolution' policy to promote beekeeping and honey production for farmer income growth, alongside a surge in demand for health foods during the COVID-19 pandemic.
After a dip to 770.0 thousand tonnes in 2021, as record Indian honey exports of over 74,000 tonnes redirected supply, the market volume recovered to 799.1 thousand tonnes in 2022. This recovery was fueled by rising domestic consumption in India, linked to growing health awareness and increased prevalence of chronic diseases. The market then stabilized at 795.8 thousand tonnes in 2023, balancing India's strengthened position as the world's second-largest exporter against robust domestic demand for organic and natural honey products.
