The Asian groundnut oil-cake market volume fell sharply to 3 398 thousand tonnes in 2019 but began recovering the following year. This turnaround coincided with the 2020 launch of a government scheme providing INR 10 000 crore over five years to assist micro food processing units, including those handling groundnuts. The financial and technical support helped upgrade facilities, reduce processing losses, and directly boosted production capacity.

The support scheme's effect continued through 2021 and 2022, sustaining market growth to a peak of 4 634 thousand tonnes. Policy attention also shifted toward increasing the output of primary oilseed crops like groundnut, laying groundwork for greater raw material availability. The industry's ongoing modernization, marked by more efficient solvent extraction plants, further supported output levels during this period.

Market volume eased to 4 418 thousand tonnes in 2023. This slight contraction occurred alongside a government ban on exports of de-oiled rice bran, a measure that introduced uncertainty for oilseed processors and affected sector activity. Concurrently, the long-term evolution of extraction technology contributed to stable underlying efficiency despite the short-term regulatory impact.
