Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2024, Lithuania's wine market volume declined from 34.3 million liters to 27.5 million liters, while its value increased from $67.2 million to $83.3 million, indicating a sustained consumer shift toward higher-priced and quality products. This trend began in 2018 with growing interest in varieties like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the entry of new producers into the market, and falling sales of cheaper wines.

Simultaneously, local viticulture expanded through scientific research and the development of grape varieties adapted to Lithuania's climate, such as Solaris and Regent. This, along with state support under the 2023-2027 strategic plan for agriculture, boosted domestic wine production, which rose from 3.8 million liters in 2018 to 4.3 million liters in 2024.

However, increased exports of Lithuanian wine, which more than doubled over the period, and changes in consumer behavior following adjustments to alcohol legislation, led to a contraction in domestic consumption in volume terms, even as imports of premium wines continued.
