Production gear boxes in Portugal

After a two-year decline, gearbox production in Portugal rebounded. In 2021, output reached 244.9 million US dollars, marking a sharp year-on-year increase of 35.3%. Over the 2018-2021 period, production fell by 20.8%, with a compound annual growth rate of -7.5%. The lowest value was recorded in 2020 at 181.1 million US dollars, which also saw the largest decline of 29.3%.

Following a two-year drop, Portugal's gearbox exports recovered. In 2021, exports totaled 21 533 tonnes, representing a 5.1% increase compared to the previous year. From 2018 to 2021, exports decreased by 41.2%, with a compound annual growth rate of -16.2%. The minimum was in 2020 at 20 497 tonnes, which experienced the steepest decline of 32.5%.

From 2018 to 2021, Spain, France, and Romania were the primary destinations for Portugal's gearbox exports by volume. Spain accounted for 53.1% of exports, France for 19.7%, and Romania for 14.7%, together making up 87.5% of total export flows.

Following a two-year decline, Portugal's gearbox imports by volume increased. In 2021, imports reached 29 666 tonnes, rising 7.1% year-on-year. From 2018 to 2021, imports fell by 36.9%, with a compound annual growth rate of -14.2%. The minimum was recorded in 2020 at 27 696 tonnes, which had the largest decrease of 33.2%.
