Earlier Report Observations

The Lithuanian frozen pork market volume contracted from 15 727 tons in 2018 to 9 943 tons in 2020. This decline was initially influenced by a shift in consumer preferences toward more sustainable and ethical food choices, which dampened meat consumption. The downward trend was sharply accelerated in 2020 by widespread supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, affecting both production and imports.

A recovery began in 2021, with market volume rising to 13 954 tons. This rebound was facilitated by the emergence of new product segments, such as frozen marinated pork, and a significant expansion of online food trade and delivery services, which broadened market access. The market stabilized around 13 800 tons in 2022 as new players entered, expanding the frozen pork assortment, while stricter labeling rules for allergens and ingredients came into effect.

Market volume continued its ascent to 15 082 tons in 2023, while the market value surged to 47 626 thousand USD. This sharp increase in value was primarily driven by global supply chain disruptions, which significantly raised costs for raw materials and energy. The period also saw notable influence from state-owned companies through their large-scale production and export operations. Volume growth persisted, reaching 15 854 tons in 2024.
