Between 2018 and 2020, the production volume of fresh or chilled whole chickens in Greece increased from 115.0 thousand tons to 119.3 thousand tons in 2019, then contracted to 114.0 thousand tons in 2020. The total market volume followed a similar pattern, rising to 120.7 thousand tons in 2019 before falling to 113.8 thousand tons the following year. Imports declined steadily over this period, while exports remained relatively stable.

From 2021 onward, Greek chicken exports expanded significantly, rising from 7.8 thousand tons in 2020 to 18.5 thousand tons in 2024. This growth was supported by Greece remaining free from the avian flu outbreaks that affected other EU countries, securing both domestic supply and export capacity. Concurrently, high input costs across the EU put pressure on poultry production, but the Greek sector's vertical integration and focus on quality helped it increase its export footprint. Consumer trends favoring chicken as a primary protein source further underpinned demand.

Production of fresh or chilled whole chickens in Greece declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, output was valued at 245.9 million US dollars, down 3.3% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 13.2%, with an average annual growth rate of 4.2%. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 258.5 million US dollars, which also saw the largest increase of 19.0%.
