Earlier Report Observations

In 2018, Poland was the second-largest recipient of German pork within the EU, highlighting its role as a major importer. Market volume in physical terms dipped in 2019 before recovering through 2020 and reaching a peak of 2.07 million tons in 2021. This increase coincided with a trend where pork and beef prices began to converge, boosting overall consumer interest in meat and supporting demand.

Market volume then contracted to 1.94 million tons in 2022 as a sharp spike in feed and energy costs, exacerbated by geopolitical events, raised production expenses. Inflationary pressure in 2023 further reduced physical consumption to 1.83 million tons, with consumers becoming more price-conscious and focused on product origin. A recovery to 1.94 million tons occurred in 2024, supported by growing meat exports to EU and third-country markets and broader market stabilization after a period of volatility linked to disease outbreaks and trade restrictions.
