The market for fresh or chilled duck meat in Fiji underwent a major contraction after 2018, when the market volume of 1 183 t fell to 474 t in 2019. This sharp decline was driven almost entirely by a collapse in imports, which dropped from 793 t to just 39 t.

From 2020 onward, the market stabilized at a volume between 420 t and 490 t. During this period, domestic production grew steadily, reaching 475 t in 2023, largely compensating for the sustained low level of imports. Trade flows remained modest in 2024, with imports of 23 t and exports of 8 t.

In 2019, output reached its peak at 444.1 tonnes, but by 2020 it had fallen to 406.9 tonnes, marking an 8.4% decrease from the previous year. Over the entire 2017-2020 period, production increased by 16.2%, with an average annual growth rate of 5.1%. The most significant year-on-year increase occurred in 2018, when production rose by 13.7%.

Fresh or chilled duck meat production in Fiji increased for the second year in a row in 2020. The output was valued at 1 776 thousand US dollars, representing a modest 4.0% rise compared to 2019. The lowest value during the period was recorded in 2018 at 1 540 thousand US dollars, which saw a 12.1% decline from the previous year. In contrast, 2019 experienced the largest increase, with production value growing by 10.9%.
