Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the market volume for fresh or chilled duck meat in Eastern Europe increased from 80 thousand tons to 131.6 thousand tons in 2019, then declined to 103.9 thousand tons in 2020. The surge in 2019 was partly driven by a significant rise in imports, which grew by 20% to 15.7 thousand tons. In 2020, despite the contraction, the market saw the entry of a new producer – ‘Novye Utinye Fermy’ (New Duck Farms) created by the Damate group, which resumed operations at the Donstar facility.

The market recovered to 120.5 thousand tons in 2021 as production jumped by 27% to 192.5 thousand tons, supported by strengthened exports to Saudi Arabia, China, Kazakhstan, and Angola. However, in 2022, market volume dropped to 93.4 thousand tons due to changes in international trade relations that affected global supply chains. By 2023, the market expanded again to 108.8 thousand tons, fueled by continued production growth and steady demand in this niche segment.
