Earlier Report Observations
The Libyan fig market volume grew steadily from 9 873 t in 2018 to 11 327 t in 2021, an increase of nearly 15% over three years. This expansion was primarily supported by rising domestic production, which increased from 9 720 t to 11 154 t over the same period.
After reaching its peak, the market contracted to 10 446 t in 2022, a drop of almost 8%, mirroring a similar decline in production. Imports, while volatile, played a supplementary role, surging to 431 t in 2019 and again to 487 t in 2023, but their overall share remained relatively small compared to domestic output.
By 2023, the market showed signs of recovery, reaching 10 856 t, which was 4% above the 2022 level but still below the 2021 high. The period closed with the market volume having increased by approximately 10% compared to its 2018 starting point.
