Earlier Report Observations
Cuba's production of fresh or chilled edible brassicas dropped dramatically from 112.8 thousand tons in 2018 to 52.1 thousand tons in 2020, cutting the market volume by more than half over two years.
Output then stabilized near 52 thousand tons annually from 2021 through 2023, ending at 51.0 thousand tons in 2023. The persistent low level was driven by a 'war economy' policy and macroeconomic adjustment measures that reduced investment in agriculture and limited access to key inputs such as fertilizers, pesticides, and fuel, raising production costs and squeezing profitability for brassica growers.
