These government programs aimed to expand cultivation of this drought-tolerant legume, contributing to a market volume that grew to 834 metric tons in 2020 after a slight contraction the previous year.

Market volume then fluctuated between 821 and 825 metric tons through 2022, a period where broader consumer trends showed increasing support for local and sustainable products, potentially supporting demand. By 2023, however, domestic production fell significantly, leading to a market size of 802 metric tons despite a sharp rise in imports.
