Production of dried shelled cow peas in MENA increased sharply from 46 162 tons in 2018 to 95 653 tons in 2023, driving the market size up from 87 390 tons in 2019 to 104 740 tons in 2023. The most rapid production growth occurred between 2018 and 2019, when output rose by over 60%.

Imports of dried shelled cow peas varied throughout the period, starting at 15 959 tons in 2019, dipping to 10 559 tons in 2020, and then gradually recovering before falling again to 10 206 tons in 2023. In 2024, imports jumped to 21 114 tons, while exports remained low, never surpassing 2 800 tons. The overall market growth was therefore largely attributable to the expansion of domestic production.

In contrast, the largest increase was observed in 2019, when production surged by 60.7%.

The market for dried shelled cow peas exports from the MENA region showed significant fluctuations during the period. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2020 at 230 tonnes, representing a sharp year-over-year drop of 91.7%. In contrast, the highest export volume was in 2019 at 2 763 tonnes, resulting in a 12-fold gap between these two years. The largest increase in exports occurred in 2019, with a growth of 362.7%.
