The market volume for dried shelled beans in Thailand expanded significantly from 73 533 t in 2018 to a peak of 103 618 t in 2020. After this high, the market corrected downward to 99 913 t in 2021 and further to 82 257 t in 2022, before rebounding to 99 399 t in 2023.

A key factor in the 2021 decline was a surge in exports, fueled by increased demand for shelled nuts in China ahead of the Lunar New Year, with online sales and live streaming creating new export channels. The following year, the domestic market contracted further as high prices for imported soybeans, driven by a weak Thai baht and global volatility, reduced import volumes and pressured local supply.

Thailand's dried shelled bean production has increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 90 558 tonnes, showing a slight year-over-year increase of 1.2%. Production reached its lowest point in 2018 at 86 306 tonnes, which represented the largest decline of 4.6% during the period. The most significant increase occurred in 2019, with a 3.7% rise.

Dried shelled bean production in Thailand has grown for the second year in a row. In 2020, the output was valued at 103.5 million US dollars, marking a substantial year-over-year increase of 12.0%. From 2017 to 2020, production rose by 18.4%, equivalent to an annualized growth rate of 5.8%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 73.3 million US dollars, which saw the largest decline of 16.1%. The most notable increase happened in 2019, with a 26.0% jump.

Following a two-year decline, dried shelled bean exports from Thailand have rebounded. In 2020, exports reached 29 533 tonnes, representing a strong 60.3% increase compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports decreased by 43.9%, averaging an annual decline of 17.5%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2019 at 18 419 tonnes, which experienced the largest drop of 56.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, Thailand's dried shelled bean exports were distributed across numerous markets. Vietnam accounted for 18.6% of exports by volume, China for 16.5%, and Pakistan for 10.4%. Together, these three countries represented only 45.6% of total export flows.
