The market for crude and rifted mica in Southern Europe stood at 11 065 t in 2018 but sharply contracted to 5 661 t in 2019. In 2020, market volume fell by another 9% to 5 145 t, largely driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, which reduced capital investment and delayed industrial projects, cutting demand for mica in electrical insulation and other applications.

In 2021, the market recovered to 6 674 t, a 30% increase. This growth was fueled by the trend toward natural products in the cosmetics industry, which boosted the use of natural mica as an ingredient.

By 2022, market volume edged down to 6 318 t, while value rose to 3 499 thousand US dollars. Demand from the cosmetic sector and green construction continued to support the market, but global economic uncertainty and lower investment exerted a dampening effect on industrial demand.
