The market volume for crude and rifted sheets or splittings mica in Northern Europe experienced significant fluctuations between 2018 and 2022. Starting at 13 248 t in 2018, it rose by 9% to 14 463 t in 2019 before dropping sharply by 21% to 11 438 t in 2020. The market then rebounded strongly, growing 40% to 16 037 t in 2021, which marked the peak for the period, before easing slightly by 4% to 15 452 t in 2022.

These movements were aligned with changes in domestic production and net trade. Production volumes peaked at 14 114 t in 2019, then fell by 23% to 10 918 t in 2020, recovered by 27% to 13 820 t in 2021 and declined by 9% to 12 605 t in 2022. At the same time, net imports increased substantially, particularly from 2021 onward, reaching 2 848 t in 2022, which helped sustain the overall market volume despite lower production.
