Uganda's cottonseed oil market volume increased from 10 500 t in 2018 to 11 800 t in 2023, reflecting overall growth across the period. This expansion was primarily driven by a rise in domestic production, which followed a similar trajectory after a temporary dip in 2019.

The market recovery began in 2020 and continued through 2022, peaking at 11 875 t before a slight stabilization in 2023. Imports and exports remained minimal throughout, indicating the market was largely supplied by local output.

Some export activity to neighboring countries like Burundi was recorded, though these volumes were small and did not substantially influence the total market size.

In 2020, Uganda produced 10 400 tonnes of cottonseed oil and fractions, marking a moderate 7.2% increase compared to 2019. Looking at the broader period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 33.3%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 10.1%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 10 500 tonnes. However, production saw its largest decline in 2019, dropping by 7.6%, while the most significant increase occurred in 2018 with a 34.6% rise.

The export market for cottonseed oil and fractions from Uganda showed considerable volatility during this period. Exports reached their lowest point in 2017 and peaked in 2019, with a 4.5-fold difference between these two years. In 2020, Uganda's exports amounted to 10 450 kg, representing a substantial 49.6% decrease from the previous year. The maximum export volume was recorded in 2019 at 20 750 kg, which also saw the largest increase of 315.0%.

From 2017 to 2020, South Sudan and Kenya were the primary destinations for Uganda's cottonseed oil and fractions exports, together accounting for 87.3% of the total export volume. The remaining exports were distributed among various smaller markets.

Exports hit their lowest point in 2017 and reached their peak in 2019, with an 8-fold difference between these years. In 2020, Uganda's cottonseed oil and fractions exports were valued at 13 250 US dollars, showing a sharp 36.1% contraction compared to 2019. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 20 743 US dollars, which also experienced the largest increase of 508.8%.

The import market in value terms showed an unstable trend during this period. Imports were at their lowest in 2020 and reached their highest in 2017, with an 11.6-fold gap between these years.
