Production remained relatively stable at around 13 100 metric tons during this period, while imports began to increase notably from 2020 onward.

The market dynamics shifted sharply in 2022, when total market volume surged by over 60% to reach 21 105 metric tons. This spike was driven primarily by a massive rise in imports, which jumped to 9 868 metric tons, even as domestic production declined to 11 400 metric tons. The market then contracted in 2023, falling to 14 931 metric tons.

In 2023, despite the overall volume decrease, several industry trends were observed. Consumer demand grew for oils with favorable nutritional profiles, such as cottonseed oil due to its low saturated fat and high monounsaturated fat content. There was also increasing preference for organic and non-genetically modified products, as well as rising demand for non-food uses like biodiesel, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Technological innovations in extraction and processing methods also contributed to market competitiveness.
