While imports surged, domestic production contracted sharply from 5.5 million to 2.6 million US dollars. The market experienced a slight dip in 2019 before entering a phase of robust expansion, with significant value jumps occurring in 2021 and again in 2024.

Exports grew from 59.2 million to 97.2 million US dollars, but this was outpaced by import growth. Consequently, the market's expansion became increasingly dependent on foreign products as local manufacturing diminished.

From 2017 to 2020, Czechia, Austria, and Hungary were the leading destinations for Slovakia's cosmetics and skin care exports by volume. Czechia accounted for 25.3% of exports, Austria for 22.5%, and Hungary for 13.4%. Together, these three countries represented 61.2% of total export flows.
