Vietnam's copra production increased from 275 thousand tonnes in 2018 to 288 thousand tonnes by 2022, with market volume growing from 275 thousand tonnes to 286.6 thousand tonnes over the same period. The market's upward trajectory was briefly interrupted in 2020 when exports commenced, reducing domestic availability, but it quickly recovered and continued its expansion.

Production stabilized at 288 thousand tonnes in both 2022 and 2023. This plateau coincided with a climatic shift from La Niña to El Niño towards the end of 2023, which can affect coconut harvests and subsequently copra output. Concurrently, increasing competitive pressure from imported edible oils within Vietnam's domestic market influenced demand for copra as a raw material for coconut oil production.

Following two years of growth, Vietnam's copra production declined. In 2020, the country produced 282.0 thousand tons, marking a slight decrease of 1.1% compared to the previous year. Over the 2017–2020 period, production rose by 4.4%, which translates to an annualized growth rate of 1.5%. The highest production volume was recorded in 2019 at 285.0 thousand tons, with the largest year-on-year increase of 3.6% also occurring that year.

From 2017 to 2020, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates were the main markets for Vietnam's copra exports in volume terms, accounting for 29.2%, 27.6%, and 17.8% of total flows, respectively. Together, these three countries represented 74.5% of all exports.
