Between 2018 and 2020, the market for concentrated milk and cream in Peru expanded from 434.2 thousand tons to 477.3 thousand tons. This growth was supported by the consolidated presence of major dairy companies—Gloria, Nestlé, and Laive—which together controlled over 90% of the dairy market. While consumer preference shifted toward pasteurized milk, growing more than twice as fast as evaporated milk, the overall market volume was bolstered by vertical integration and expanded production capacity, including three Nestlé plants in Lima, Chiclayo, and Cajamarca.

The market accelerated sharply in 2021, reaching 539.4 thousand tons, driven by heightened health awareness and demand for protein-rich foods following the pandemic. Government promotion of milk consumption, led by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, alongside the introduction of high-quality dairy cattle breeds in Piura, further stimulated production. In 2022, a new pasteurization plant in Lambayeque, with a capacity of 500 liters per hour, began operations, enhancing product quality and supply chain efficiency, which helped sustain market volume near 541.5 thousand tons.

By 2023, market volume adjusted to 497.8 thousand tons, while value remained steady at $948.9 million, reflecting the impact of higher dairy prices. Overall milk sales in Peru increased by 6.3% in value, primarily due to price inflation, even as per capita milk consumption rose, indicating resilient demand supported by ongoing public campaigns to boost dairy intake.

Peru's production of concentrated milk and cream declined after two years of growth. In 2020, output reached 525.9 thousand tonnes, remaining nearly unchanged from the previous year. The peak was recorded in 2019 at 528.0 thousand tonnes, which also saw the largest annual increase of 1.8%.

In 2020, the value of concentrated milk and cream production in Peru was 668.1 million US dollars, reflecting a 3.2% increase compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production value grew by 4.4%, with a compound annual growth rate of 1.4%. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 673.6 million US dollars, which also experienced the largest annual increase of 5.3%. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 3.9%.

Peru's exports of concentrated milk and cream declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports totaled 58 471 tonnes, marking an 18.9% decrease from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports fell by 29.2%, with a compound annual growth rate of -10.9%. The peak was in 2018 at 90 004 tonnes, which also saw the largest annual increase of 9.0%. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 19.9%.

From 2017 to 2020, Haiti, the United States, and Chile were the key destinations for Peru's concentrated milk and cream exports in volume terms. Haiti accounted for 49.1% of exports, the United States for 10.7%, and Chile for 6.3%, together representing 66.1% of total export flows.

The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 116.9 million US dollars, which also experienced the largest annual increase of 14.5%. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 24.4%.
