Southern Asia's production of coconuts, Brazil nuts, and cashews declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, the region produced 17,424 thousand tons, marking a moderate decrease of 5.2% from 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 21.8%, which translates to an annualized rate of 6.8%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 19,855 thousand tons, with the largest annual increase of 38.7% that same year. The most significant drop occurred in 2019, when production fell by 7.5%.

The value of coconuts, Brazil nuts, and cashews production in Southern Asia also fell for the second consecutive year. In 2020, output was valued at 42,218 million US dollars, showing a slight reduction of 2.1% compared to 2019. The peak value was reached in 2018 at 51,294 million US dollars, which saw the largest annual increase of 20.7%. The most substantial decline happened in 2019, with a drop of 15.9%.

In 2020, exports totaled 49,531 tons, representing a dramatic fall of 25.3% from the previous year. The lowest volume was recorded in 2018 at 38,302 tons, while the peak occurred in 2019 at 66,331 tons, which also saw the largest annual increase of 73.2%. Overall, exports fluctuated significantly, with a 1.7-fold difference between the trough in 2018 and the peak in 2019.

From 2017 to 2020, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Canada were the top buyers of coconuts, Brazil nuts, and cashews from Southern Asia, but none dominated the market. The UAE accounted for 17.0% of exports in kind, the US for 7.6%, and Canada for 4.8%, together making up 29.5% of total exports. The remaining 70.5% was distributed among a wide range of smaller trading partners.
