The market for coconuts, Brazil nuts and cashews in Myanmar contracted significantly from 2018 to 2021, with volume dropping by over 190 thousand tons to 1 217 thousand tons. This decline represented a reduction of nearly 14% compared to the 2018 peak of 1 412 thousand tons. The downward trend was most pronounced in 2019, when the market shrank by almost 10%.

After reaching a low in 2021, the market entered a recovery phase. Volume increased by 1.4% to 1 234 thousand tons in 2022 and then grew by a further 4.8% to 1 293 thousand tons in 2023. While the 2023 volume remained below the 2018 level, the two consecutive years of growth indicated a reversal of the previous contraction. The market's dynamics closely mirrored domestic production figures, as trade flows remained minimal throughout the period.

In 2020, the country produced 1 254 K t, marking a slight decrease of 1.9% compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 2.2%, with a compound annual growth rate of 0.7%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 1 416 K t, which represented a significant increase of 15.3%. However, the largest decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 9.7%.

Between 2017 and 2020, China, Thailand, and Vietnam were the primary buyers of coconuts, Brazil nuts, and cashews from Myanmar. China accounted for 38.0% of exports in kind, Thailand for 20.9%, and Vietnam for 16.5%. Together, these three countries represented 75.4% of Myanmar's total exports in kind during this period.
