Earlier Report Observations

The coconut oil market in Cameroon started the period at 572 t in 2018, partly supported by the entry of a new small-scale producer, Minerva Food 4 You, which launched operations with imports of raw nuts from Equatorial Guinea. Market volume remained stable in 2019 at 568 t but then declined over the next two years, falling to 530 t in 2021.

Production rebounded sharply to 588 t in 2022, driving market size to 592 t. However, in 2023, the market contracted to 561 t, coinciding with the Ministry of Agriculture's withdrawal of approvals for key phytosanitary products, which limited plant protection inputs for coconut plantations and reduced raw material availability. The vegetable oils sector also faced persistent challenges like farmland scarcity and high fertilizer costs.

In 2024, new national agri-food standards were adopted that may affect edible oil quality, and the digitalization of public procurement procedures was implemented, potentially easing producers' access to equipment.
